The Backstretch Blog: Home on the Range

The Backstretch Blog: Home on the Range (April 21, 2012)

So NASCAR heads to my home track, the Kansas Speedway. I still remember what this area was like before they built this monstrous track on the gateway to the great plains.

They will be repaving and reconfigure this track as soon as the race is over on Sunday. And this is the only time that this race will be run in the spring (the normal dates are summer and fall). So I asked a couple of the drivers, can you use the notes you have and will you learn any thing this week that they can us when they return?

"You won't take much," said Denny Hamlin. "I can assure you that when you come back, you will come back with a completely different set up than what you have this time around. You will run something more like what you run at Michigan now, with the new repave or Charlotte that type of race track."

Greg Biffle agrees there is not much you can take from this weekends race, "So this is just for fun, this is for the trophy."

With that in mind, it is the last hoorah for the drivers, many of which enjoy racing on this track, and there are three that would really love to win here at Kansas Speedway: Missouri drivers Jamie McMurray and Carl Edwards along with Kansas native Clint Bowyer.

"It's everthing," said Bowyer. "Winning the truck series race here last weekend was fun, but there's nothing like winning in this cup series."

Both Bowyer and Edwards are drivers to watch this weekend, but the drivers that are really good here include Biffle, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Brad Keselowski to name a few.
