The national coordinator for college football officials says the controversial calls in the Music City and Pinstripe bowls were correct, but added the chaotic end to the North Carolina-Tennessee game already has sparked talk of a rule change.
David Parry said the rule book supports officials who flagged a Kansas State player for unsportsmanlike conduct for saluting after he scored a touchdown.
The Music City Bowl went to overtime after North Carolina was penalized for too many men on the field on what looked like the final play. Replay officials put a second back on the clock and the Tar Heels sent the game to overtime with a field goal.
Parry said officials handled the confusing final seconds properly, but he expects the NCAA rules committee to discuss implementing an NFL rule that would have run time off the clock as part of the too many men on the field penalty.
