Fort Hays State freshman guard Craig Nicholson was named to the Division II Bulletin Men's Basketball All-Freshman Team for the 2012-13 season. Nicholson was an All-MIAA Second Team selection and named the MIAA Freshman of the Year as well for 2012-13.

Nicholson was the only freshman on the All-MIAA first, second or third teams. He led the MIAA and ranked second in the nation in assists per game, averaging 6.9. Nicholson averaged 13.8 points per game to rank third on the team in scoring. In the MIAA, he ranked first in assists, second in assist/turnover ratio, fifth in steals, eighth in 3-point field goal percentage, 12th in free-throw percentage, and 19th in scoring.

Nicholson scored in double figures in 23 of 28 games, reaching at least 20 points four times, and had seven or more assists in 16 games. Nicholson finished the year with a total of 387 points and 192 assists. He broke the single-season record for assists per game at FHSU, topping the old mark of 6.6 set by Raymond Lee in 1982-83.

Nicholson is a graduate of Northwest High School in Wichita.
