Through the first two days of the 2013 Fur Rendezvous Championship Sled Dog Race Arleigh Reynolds and his team have been both fast and consistent. Friday Reynolds and his dogs made their way around the 24.8 mile course in 1:17:46 for the best time of day one. Saturday looked very similar, Reynolds crossed the finish line in 1:17:47, again turning in the best day time and extending his lead over 5-time champion Egil Ellis who is currently running second.
With a lead of 3:41 heading into the final day Reynolds is on the cusp of capturing his first career Fur Rondy victory. Following his second straight day winning run Arleigh Reynolds explained what it would mean to him to win this race saying "my entire adult life i've been working for this goal, professionally this would be the greatest achievement i've had. It's not better than my family or anything like that but professionally it would be the greatest achievement i've ever been able to make but tomorrow's another day we haven't got there yet i hope i can talk to you about this tomorrow."
With a big lead and just a single trip around the course remaining Reynolds does not need to be the fastest team out on the trail Sunday in order to win. He will need to avoid any major time costing set backs that could help Egil Ellis or the rest of the field make up ground.
