The Kenai River Brown Bears of the North American Hockey League have tapped into an old rival for their next head coach. The Junior A franchise is hiring former Fairbanks Ice Dogs assistant coach Geoff Beauparlant, who spent the last three years with the Fairbanks organization.

Beauparlant replaces Oliver David, who recently took a coaching job in the USHL. During Beauparlant's three seasons with the Ice Dogs, Fairbanks captured the Robertson Cup as NAHL Tier II champions in 2011.

The new coach already has familiarity with the Brown Bears team, as Fairbanks and Kenai River squared off 21 times last year, regular season and playoffs combined. Kenai River finished 29-25-6 last season, good for third in the NAHL West Division.
