“The American Cancer Society is only one of the many causes we like to donate to each year,” IVCFC president Amanda Esparza said. “We feel it’s important to bring awareness to our community while at the same time raising valuable funds for cancer research and care.”
Nine-year cancer survivor Melissa Rodriguez was the Relay for Life team leader that received the check that will ultimately be given to the American Cancer Society.
“Any contributions given by our local organizations are helping our local citizens,” Rodriguez said. “A part of their donation goes towards research but the other part goes to fund services and programs that benefit our local cancer patients.”
The Relay for Life event will be March 24-25 at Southwest High in El Centro.
