William Collins and Raymond Rolf went 4-1 each in the first week of the Beat the Press playoffs, earning them spots in the second round.
Sports Editor Mario Renteria, Sports Writer Ryan Leon and District Manager Sam Rice were all eliminated.
The playoffs now move into a head-to-head bracket format.
Staffer Ross Rodriguez gets the top seed, followed by Assistant Editor Richard Brown. Wayne Cartee gets the No. 3 seed, Juan Pablo Lopez gets the No. 4 seed, Steve Alsip gets the No. 5 seed, Carlos Nava gets the No. 6 seed, Collins gets No. 7 and Rolf No. 8.
That means Rodriguez will face Rolf, Brown will face Collins, Cartee will face Nava and Alsip will face Lopez. The best record of each matchup will advance to the next round.
Here are the games: New Orleans at San Francisco, Denver at New England, Houston at Baltimore and the New York Giants at Green Bay. The Saints-49ers game will be the tiebreaker game.
Picks are due by 5 p.m. Friday. All the picks will be published in Saturday’s edition. Good luck and thanks to those that participated.
