Preakness revelers have plenty of options for getting to Pimlico Race Course for Saturday’s horse races and InfieldFest. Here’s what you need to know about getting to the track, at 5201 Park Heights Ave., this weekend.
Those planning on driving to Preakness should be aware of road closures. The Baltimore City Department of Transportation will begin closing roads in Northwest Baltimore on Thursday at 10 p.m., with additional closures rolling out Friday and Saturday. Closures will run through Saturday at 11 p.m.
A full list of closures and their duration is available on the DOT’s website or at the bottom of this article.
Limited parking spots are available in lots near the track. Advance passes can be purchased by phone at 877-206-8042 or online, and day-of parking is $65 on a first-come, first-served basis. Limited parking is also generally available on surrounding side streets. And while it may not be officially sanctioned, residents in the surrounding Park Heights neighborhood often open up their yards and driveways for parking.
Using rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft is a solid alternative to driving, though high demand during a large event like Preakness can lead to surging fares and longer wait times. Uber has previously suggested requesting rides away from the Pimlico’s main entrances avoiding congested areas close to the track.
This is the first Preakness since Baltimore roled out its new BaltimoreLink bus routes. There are LocalLink bus stops near Pimlico along routes 30, 31, 34, 85, 91, 92, and 94. Round trip tickets are $1.80, and day passes are $4.20.
From North Baltimore, Preakness attendees can also take a Park & Ride Express Bus from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute-Western High School, Cold Spring Lane and Falls Road, to Pimlico ($4.20 round trip)
Preakness attendees traveling from Washington, D.C., can take the MARC train to Penn Station, then transfer to the light rail (see below).
Preakness attendees can take a shuttle or walk to the course from nearby light rail stations.

Walking from the Mount Washington light rail station — about 1.5 miles away from Pimlico — is another option. From the north or south, take the light rail to Mount Washington. From the station, make a left on Newbury Street and walk to Kelly Avenue. Turn left on Kelly Avenue and make a quick right on South Road. Follow South Road for about 1.2 miles to the intersection of Pimlico Road. Hang a left on Pimlico Road and cross Northern Parkway to the race course on your right.
