By 9 o’clock Sunday morning, the 138th Preakness Stakes was a sterling memory on the grounds of Pimilico. Winner Oxbow and his trainer, D. Wayne Lukas, had shipped out hours before, and all that remained from the 117,203 spectators who flocked to the track on Saturday was a bit of trash, according to Mike Gathagan, vice president of communications for the Maryland Jockey Club. “They clean that infield pretty quickly,” he said of the work crews at about 9:45 a.m. “I’m looking at it now and it’s clean, it’s clear.” Also cleared out were the horses that ran in the Preakness. Gathagan said Lukas had arrived Sunday morning at about 4:30 a.m., and the Preakness winner had pulled out before 6 a.m. “Everything happens early here,” Gathagan said.
