Analysis, betting tips for Friday's race card at Laurel Park

For The Baltimore Sun
The weather outside might be frightful, but Stan Salter's picks for Friday's racing are anything but.

Stan Salter's betting tips and best bets for Friday's race card at Laurel Park:

Race 1, 1:10 p.m. post time

Selections: No. 7 Stalk, No. 3 Party Regent, No. 4 Impressive Way

Stalk should be able to get a trouble-free stalking trip from the outside. The drop in class puts Party Regent right there. Impressive Way runs today as a first-time gelding off of a year layoff for new connections.

Race 2, 1:40 p.m.

Selections: No. 7, Wildcat Gaze, No. 5 Barbie Stones, No. 4 Chickaletta

Wildcat Gaze will try to go right to the front and lead them all the way just like she did in her last start. Barbie Stones has won three in a row coming from behind and will try to run down my top pick in the
final strides. Chickaletta has been running against much tougher company, so the class relief should help.

Race 3, 2:10 p.m.

Selections: No. 2 Turbin, No. 6 Showmeister, No. 7 Cold Facts

Turbin just got beat by a head three starts ago at this level and the connections are hot. Showmeister is getting a class relief off the
layoff and runs for a new barn, who wins at 23n percent with new
runners. Cold Facts gets class relief today for strong connections and it puts him right there.

Race 4, 2:40 p.m.

Selections: No. 7 Michaels Butterfly, No. 5 Next Street, No. 4 Bighearted Nana

Michaels Butterfly had a brief freshening for her new barn, who does well with that move and Trevor McCarthy rides. Next Street rallied from off the pace last out to win at this level. Bighearted Nana's lite weight assignment should help her out a bit.

Race 5, 3:10 p.m.

Selections: No. 4 Get Rid of (Price Play), No. 2 Gavin Streetsense, No. 6 Watch the Tie

Get Rid Of has improved with blinkers on and put it all together last out to win going away. Gavin Streetsense faded to finish third last out vs. tougher, so the class relief he’s getting should help. Watch the Tie's barn has been able to pull this move off before shipping in from New York.

Race 6, 3:40 p.m.

Selections: No. 6 Mid Ocean, No. 2 Andy's Love, No. 5 Dawn of Time

Mid Ocean rallied from far back in his last two starts to just miss, so the added ground he gets today should help. Andy’s Love is 6-for10 in the money, with two wins at this track. Dawn of Time stumbled at the break last out, but his three races before that puts him right there.

Race 7, 4:10 p.m.

Selections: No. 2 Borino, No. 4 Bring Me Answers, No. 5 Include Gold

Borino finished a game second last out vs. open Allowance compny and  keeps McCarthy on in this easier spot. Bring Me Answers had a very sharp win first off the claim in her last start and she adds blinkers on today. Include Gold is 5-for-6 in the money, with three wins at this track.

Race 8, 4:40 p.m.

Selections: No. 9 Cold Spice (Best Bet), No. 8 Theyallcomehome, No. 2 White Bluff

Cold Spice, a 5-year-old son of Tiznow, has won two straight at this distance over this track for strong connections. Theyallcomehome is  trained by leading trainer Claudio Gonzalez and the drop in class should help. White Bluff shipped in from Parx to win here last out, but faces a tougher group today.

Best bet: Race 8, No. 9 Cold Spice (7-2)

Price play: Race 5, No. 4 Get Rid of (6-1)
