Analysis and betting tips for Friday's race card at Laurel Park

For The Baltimore Sun
Check out Stan Salter's look at the entire race card, but pay particular attention to his best bet.

Stan Salter's betting tips and best best for Friday's race card at Laurel Park:

Race 1, 12:30 p.m. post time

Selections: No. 4 Red Hot Looks, No. 12 Disobedience, No. 1 Spoiled by God.

Red Hot Looks' lone turf try was decent and he gets a big class relief in this spot. Disobedience runs as a first-time gelding and gets first-time Lasix today. Spoiled by God cuts back to his preferred distance today.

Race 2, 1 p.m.

Selections: No. 2 Resurgence, No. 1 Hush Hush Henny,  No. 4 Theforgottenone

Resurgence has won two in a row and drops into a dream spot against this group. Hush Hush Henny has also won two in a row and the show horse last time out came back to win. Theforgottenone regained his winning form last out at Charles Town.

Race 3, 1:30 p.m.

Selections: No. 10 Major Anthem, No. 7 Tigers Bop, No. 5 Just the Zip

At this level and distance, Major Anthem should be tough to beat. Tigers Bop has early speed and will try to lead them the whole way. Just the Zip rallied for third last time out against slightly better company.

Race 4, 2 p.m.

Selections: No. 4 Fortutious, No. 7 I Just Wanna Win, No. 1 Stormy Mama

Fortutious has been running against better and gets a class relief today with Trevor McCarthy in the saddle. I Just Wanna Win is a three-time winner at this track, but this is her first start since last May. Stormy Mama had to overcome a troubled trip last out.

Race 5, 2:30 p.m.

Selections: No. 8 City Gold, No. 11 Gin Fuzz, No. 9 Hibernia Fire

City Gold has been in top form his last two and will get a solid 9-2 price on him today. Gin Fuzz has been right there against better in his last two and keeps Jevian Toledo aboard today. Hibernia Fire had a wide journey last out, but is capable of better.

Race 6, 3 p.m.

Selections: No. 2 Staff Sgt Reckless, No. 7 Moolight Basin, No. 5 Flame of My Heart

Staff Sgt Reckless had to fight it out for the win in her last start like the war horse she’s named after. Moonlight Basin hung a little last time out when finishing second at this level. Flame of My Heart has early speed and  broke her maiden here last July.

Race 7, 3:30 p.m.

Selections: No. 4 Cara's Nay Nay, No. 12 Moral High Ground, No. 1 Desert Princess

Cara’s Nay Nay has won her last three, including the last two at this track and  is well spotted to win again today. Moral High Ground has won her last two, but is stepping up a level today. Desert Princess rallied wide last time out to run third to my top pick in here.

Race 8, 4 p.m.

Selections: No. 7 McMullen County, No. 9 Afleet Willy, No. 3 Bull Ensign

McMullen County has won his last two and gets the red-hot Feargal Lynch to ride today. Not sure what happened last out, but Afleet Willy  should regain his top form in this spot today. Bull Ensign ran a game second last out at this level.

Race 9, 4:30 p.m.

Selections: No. 14 Heavenly Haze, No. 6 Bird Call, No. 11 To Dare

Heavenly Haze has speed from the outside and keeps Carrasco aboard. Bird Call drops back to a level today where he’s very tough. To Dare switches barns, drops in class and cuts back in distance today.

Best bet: Race 7, No. 4 Cara's Nay Nay (3-1)

Day maker: Race 8, No. 7 McMullen County (8-1)
