Penguins beat Flyers, 4-2, for 2-game lead
Max Talbot, a sometimes overlooked fourth-line forward on a team renowned for its stars, scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period, and the host Pittsburgh Penguins took a two-game lead in the Eastern Conference finals by beating the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-2, last night.
Sidney Crosby and Marian Hossa also scored and Jordan Staal added an empty-net goal in the final minute as Pittsburgh came back to win after twice squandering one-goal leads.
Pittsburgh won the first two games at home for the third consecutive series, with Game 3 set for tomorrow night in Philadelphia. The Flyers won each of their first two playoff rounds after losing Game 1, but this is the first time they also lost Game 2 on the road.
Talbot had missed the previous three games with a broken right foot.
"I was happy as a kid just to be back out there," he said. "It was extra special to get the game-winner."
• Red Wings-Stars // It was "just a little altercation that's over with now," Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood insisted, a day after his team's 2-1 win over Dallas in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals was marred by an ugly ending. In the closing seconds, Osgood used the handle of his stick to poke the Stars' Mike Ribeiro, who responded with a two-handed stick slash across the goalie's chest. Ribeiro and Osgood were fined undisclosed amounts by the NHL, but neither was suspended.
