A day after Williamsport ran away with its third straight team title at the Washington County Wrestling Tournament, the Wildcats were awarded a county-high 10 berths Sunday into the Maryland Class 2A-1A West region championships, which will be held Friday and Saturday at North Hagerstown.
Williamsport also has the county’s only two No. 1 seeds — Kemper Baker (140 pounds) and Zach Shoemaker (145).
The top four finishers in each of the eight-man weight classes will advance to the state championships, which will be held March 4-5 at the University of Maryland’s Cole Field House.
In some weight classes, more than eight wrestlers qualified. In those cases, preliminary (pig-tail) bouts will be held before the quarterfinals to earn spots on the eight-man brackets.
Also for Williamsport, Reggie Russ received the No. 2 seed at 160, while Bryan Davis (103), Killian Baker (125) and Eric Davis (152) are No. 5 seeds, Matt Cody is No. 6 at 285, Bobby Ardinger is No. 7 at 135, Chauncey Baylor is No. 8 at 215 and George Ardinger is No. 11 at 130.
Eight wrestlers qualified for host North. Brendon Colbert is seeded second at 112 for the Hubs, while Duncan Yeisley is No. 4 at 119, Kenneth Burrs (160) and Connor McHose (171) are each seeded fifth, Mike Tobery (103) is sixth, Zach McKoy (145) seventh, Carter Baer (135) ninth and Gene Balcita (125) 10th.
Boonsboro and Smithsburg have four qualifiers each.
For the Warriors, Bucky Miller is seeded fifth at 189, Joe Minoglio is sixth at 140 and Charles Anoman (112) and Jon Best (160) are each seeded ninth.
For the Leopards, Chase Scott is seeded sixth at 152, Kian Roberts (119) and Dillan Harbaugh (130) are each seeded seventh and Travis Leopold (171) is ninth.
South Hagerstown has four qualifiers for the Class 4A-3A North championships, which will be held Friday and Saturday at Patapsco in Baltimore.
Aaron Rowland is seeded third at 285 for the Rebels, while Chris Collins is fifth at 189, Marquil Holt is sixth at 215 and James Wilson is seventh at 130.
