While Hickory lost 4-0 to Lakewood on Friday, the Suns failed to capitalize and remain a half-game behind the first-place Crawdads in the South Atlantic League Northern Division second-half standings.
Down 5-4 in the eighth, the Braves rallied against Suns reliever Cody Davis (1-2), loading the bases on consecutive one-out singles by Edison Sanchez, Chase Anselment and Carlos Franco. Davis was relieved by Derek Self, who was greeted by Meneses’ two-run single to right.
After each team scored a run in the first inning, the Braves went up 4-1 in the second against Suns starter Nick Lee on a two-out, three-run double by Casey Kalenkosky.
The Suns tied the game in the fifth against Rome starter Lucas Sims on back-to-back RBI doubles by Craig Manuel and Stephen Perez and an RBI single by Narciso Mesa.
The Suns went up 5-4 in the sixth against Braves reliever Zach Jadofsky (6-3). Estarlin Martinez led off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on Khayyan Norfork’s two-out single to center.
Down 6-5, the Suns put the tying run on base in each the eighth and ninth, but failed to score.
Martinez finished with two of Hagerstown’s eight hits. Sanchez and Anselment each had two of Rome’s 10 hits.
