All-Harford County: Boys basketball
Player of the Year
Isaiah Philmore
John Carroll
The Patriots played in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference this season for the first time. Philmore helped make a seamless transition from the B Conference to the tougher A Conference.
The junior averaged 18.3 points and 10.1 rebounds a game. He got those numbers while often having to cover the other team's top swingman, including having to match up with All-Metro Player of the Year Sean Mosley from St. Frances.
Philmore led John Carroll to the league playoffs and the fourth seed. He's still undecided about his collegiate future, but has received looks from Virginia Tech, Marquette, Miami and George Washington.
Coach of the Year
Keven Moldenhauer
Joppatowne
In his first season at Joppatowne, Moldenhauer wanted to change the culture of the basketball team.
He came in with a new set of guidelines, which led to a number of players getting dismissed from the team for disciplinary reasons, and the Mariners ended up finishing with four of the 16 original players who started the season on varsity.
"It was difficult for them to get used to those standards, but we showed we can still win," said Moldenhauer, whose team went 14-9 and made it to the Class 1A South regional final. "They came together. It was frustrating throughout the year, but looking back, we were very successful."
Moldenhauer credits senior point guard C.J. Townes with leading a team that had to use several sophomore players from the junior varsity.
