A three-year varsity starter as a junior, Arundel guard Ashley Davis is second in scoring (13.8) and assists (3.4) for the Class 4A East regional champion Wildcats.

Davis and the Wildcats (21-5) play Dulaney (19-3), the North regional champion, at 3 p.m. tomorrow at UMBC in the 4A state semifinals. Arundel last won a state title in 2004.

She was an All-County selection in basketball last year after averaging 15 points a game. She also plays volleyball for the Wildcats.

Davis, who has a 3.4 grade point average, has two brothers, Tim and Greg Holland, who played football and lacrosse at Arundel.

What's it's like playing alongside 6-foot-3 junior Simone Egwu and 6-4 sophomore Sherrone Vails?

It's actually great because Sherrone and Simone are great aspects of our team, especially down low. It's great playing with them.

Do you feel like you get overlooked because of their size, talent and dominance?

Not really, because everything is about our team. There is never anything ... like it's just about Simone and Sherrone.

What's the team's offensive philosophy?

Basically, Rog [coach Lee Rogers] wants us to get the ball to the person that is on fire that game. My main role is basically getting the ball down in the corner and looking for the posts or shooting the ball.

What's it like to be back in the state semifinals?

It's really exciting to be back again. We won regionals my freshman year but didn't last year. It was sad, but this year we came into our season with our goal to get back to the states.

What do you remember from playing in the states as a freshman?

It was interesting and a lot of fun, but we lost. This year I think we can get back up to the top again.

What colleges have shown interest in you, and what will you major in?

St. Joseph's [in Pennsylvania], Loyola, Old Dominion and Rhode Island. I want to major in sports medicine because I love being around sports, like being around basketball all the time. I'm looking forward to college basketball.

Do you go to sporting events?

Yes, I go to Maryland [women's] games and to Washington Mystics games. That's exactly where I want to be one day, in the pros. If I practice hard enough and apply myself to it, I think I can do it.

What do you have to work on to get ready for college?

Defense and ball-handling, especially defense.

How do you spend your free time?

I like to go to the movies and eat dinner. I like scary movies. And I like to write journals on how stuff goes in my life.

How old were you when you started playing basketball?

I was 5 years old when I started playing for GORC [Gambrills Odenton Rec Council]. And I later played for the Maryland Hurricanes and the Sure Shots [Amateur Athletic Union teams]. Last summer I played in a tournament in Tennessee.

What's your preference in music?

R&B, hip-hop and rap. I like to hear that before a game - and gospel, too.

Who do you look up to?

My whole team, my mother and my grandparents, and my whole family.
