Player of the Year

Dulaney

The senior shortstop was a catalyst in helping the No. 14 Lions (16-4) capture their first Baltimore County title since 1995. She provided leadership as a captain; good range and field sense; and a spark on offense as the leadoff batter.

A three-year starter, Barwick batted .453 with a team-high 26 RBIs and 24 runs scored, hitting six homers and striking out only twice in 75 plate appearances. Defensively, she was a steadying influence as she finished with 35 putouts and 31 assists with five errors. Barwick plans to play softball at York (Pa.) College next year.

Coach of the Year

Maryvale Prep

The seven-year coach guided the Lions (15-3) to their third straight Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference championship with a come-from-behind, 4-3 win over McDonogh that epitomized the program's success.

Messina took over in 2001 and led the team to the C Conference crown in 2002. Maryvale made the jump to the B Conference the following season and started its title run later in 2005. Trailing 3-0 in this year's title game, the Lions scored three runs in the sixth inning and then won the game with a run in the eighth.
