Performer of the Year

James Ways, Winters Mill

The junior sparked a Winters Mill team that went from sixth in the county last year to first. Ways captured the 500 at the county meet and then at states he took third in the 500 and ran on the third-place 1,600 relay team, having a hand in eight of the 16 points that Winters Mill scored that day.

Coaches of the Year

The Falcons turned things around rather quickly this season. Winters Mill finished sixth in last year's county meet but won easily this season, beating Liberty by 31 points. The Falcons also won the Clear Spring Invitational and finished second at the Frostbite Invite, showing how far they've come in a short amount of time -- something that's even more impressive considering the fact that they've got only five seniors.
