Severna Park has named David Earl as its new boys lacrosse coach.
Earl, who spent the past two years as coach at Anne Arundel Community College, replaces Shane Hall. The Falcons finished 6-9 in Hall's first season before he resigned.
Prior to coaching at AACC, Earl spent five years at St. Mary's as the junior varsity coach and varsity assistant.
This spring, Earl, a Salisbury State University graduate, was named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Coach of the Year after leading the Pioneers to a 14-7 mark and Final Four appearance.
Severna Park has reached the state tournament 11 times and won five titles, the last coming in 2010. It was the last state appearance for the program.
“[Severna Park has a] great talent pool with high expectations, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter,” Earl said. “The big thing for me is to develop kids. I want kids to be good people, hard working with good solid character and committed.
"I feel if we develop kids into those kind of people, the lacrosse part kind of takes care of itself.”Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
