Calvert Hall lacrosse coach Kelly, three area standouts honored by USA Today

Calvert Hall lacrosse coach Bryan Kelly, who guided the No. 1 Cardinals (17-2) to the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship this spring, has been named the ALL-USA Coach of the Year by USA Today.

Three area players also were named to the 2016-17 ALL-USA Boys Lacrosse Team. Earning first-team honors were McDonogh midfielder B.J. Fararre and St. Paul’s goalie Alex Rode with Calvert Hall attackman Jacob Kelly named to the third team.

In his 22nd season as coach, Bryan Kelly led the Cardinals to a perfect 11-0 mark in league play as they closed with a 12-6 win over McDonogh in the championship game. A 1987 Calvert Hall grad, he is 245-114 with MIAA A crowns coming in 2005, 2012 and 2017.

Fararre, a rising senior, is a two-time All-Metro first-team selection; Rode, a recent St. Paul’s grad who is set to play at Virgnia, also earned All-Metro first-team honors, while Jacob Kelly, a rising senior, was named the All-Metro Player of the Year.
