Mount Saint Joseph senior forward Jalen Smith and John Carroll senior point guard Immanuel Quickley were two of 20 players named to USA Today’s American Family Insurance All-USA preseason boys basketball team.
Only Florida and Virginia also had two players from the state represented on the team, which was selected by USA Today staff members in consultation with recruiting analysts and high school coaches.
Smith, a Maryland signee, and Quickley, a Kentucky signee, each have won or shared All-Metro Player of the Year honors the past two seasons. The 6-foot-10 Smith averaged 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots per game in 2016-17 as he led the Gaels to the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference and Baltimore Catholic League titles. The 6-3 Quickley 23.7 points and 7.2 assists per game last season for the Patriots.
Terps center target Moses Brown and former wing target Keldon Johnson (Kentucky) also were named All-USA.
