The Baltimore Sun

The senior capped an outstanding season Saturday, winning his second Maryland Independent Schools state championship with a 9-2 victory in the 170-pound final. The state title followed a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association title and first-place finishes at the War on the Shore and the Caruso (N.J.) tournament. Rill, who finished 32-3, was also second at the Powerade tournament, and fourth at Beast of the East, two tournaments considered the toughest high school events in the country. "He has a strong work ethic," Gaels coach Harry Barnabae said. "And he has great mat awareness. He seems to know his opponents moves before they actually start their attack." Rill, who has a 3.2 GPA, will wrestle for Division I Bloomsburg next season.

Others considered: Chase Cormier, Milford Mill, basketball; Jarred Jones, John Carroll, basketball; Brad Mutchnik, St. Paul's, wrestling; Zach Shapiro, Owings Mills, wrestling; Priestly Shuler, Poly, wrestling.
