Before the game could even get started, persistent thunderstorms rolled in, eventually cancelling the Gaels’ game against Friendship Collegiate, from Washington, D.C., in the I-95 Kickoff Classic.
“It’s pretty disappointing,” Henry said. “This is the second year in a row we’ve lost a game to the weather. Last year it was Bishop McNamara because of a hurricane. The kids work real hard all week and the coaches do too, but there’s nothing you can do about lightning.”
The Gaels dropped their season opener last weekend to Bishop McNamara, 31-23, and were hoping to avenge last year’s 18-13 Kickoff Classic loss to Friendship last night. Instead, they’ll begin preparing for St. Alban’s, which comes to the Gaels’ Plevyak Field Saturday at 1 p.m.
