Loyola Blakefield switching gears for basketball fundraiser in April

Loyola Blakefield is switching gears for its benefit dinner set for mid-April after learning that featured guest and area basketball great Steve Wojciechowski, head coach of the Marquette men's basketball team, will not be able to attend the event.

Marquette's compliance office informed Loyola Blakefield that Wojciechowski, a Cardinal Gibbons and Duke graduate, cannot speak at the event, which was titled "An evening with basketball legend Steve Wojciechowski."

Proceeds from the night will benefit the Jerry Savage Scholarship Fund.

Loyola is searching for a new guest speaker with the dinner still set to take place April 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Loyola's Knott Hall.  Proceeds from the night will benefit the Jerry Savage Scholarship Fund.

Jerry Savage, who died May 23, 2015, was the legendary basketball coach at Loyola Blakefield. He went 607-457 from 1968 to 2003, winning five Baltimore Catholic League tournament championships and one Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference title.
