Archbishop Spalding golfer Micaa' Thomas will appear in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of Sports Illustrated's Aug. 11 issue.
Thomas, a rising senior who medaled in last season's Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland championships, earned her spot in the magazine by winning the 16 age division at the Veritas World Junior and AAU Junior Olympic Games July 24 at the Tustin Ranch Golf Club in California.
She qualified for the world event by winning the U.S. AAU Junior Olympic Golf Championship in June, shooting 232 over three days and 33 on her final nine holes.
Also in June, Thomas helped the Maryland State Golf Association junior team win the Poindexter Cup over Virginia for the first time since 2009. In singles match play, she defeated Virginia's Sienna Ferrick, 3-0, as Maryland won five of the eight matches to seal the victory.
In September, Thomas, who trains with The First Tee of Greater Washington, D.C., will compete in the 2014 Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California. The event will pair her with a Champions Tour player and will be televised on the Golf channel.
"I feel so blessed and fortunate to have an opportunity to compete at one of the most prestigious golf courses in the world," Thomas said in a statement. "I can't wait to practice and play with the Champions Tour professionals. This is a dream come true."
