The Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches held two games of the 2013 Junior Classic on Monday at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie.

The South team defeated the East team, 8-0, in the first game, and the West team beat the North team, 10-0, in the second game.

In the first game, Reservoir rising junior infielder Jack Barry was 2-for-2 with an RBI triple and a run scored for the South.

The East had only three hits in the game -- one single each from Chesapeake-AA rising senior infielder Chris Ruszin, Chesapeake-AA rising senior infielder John Drexel, and Annapolis Area Christian rising senior infielder Albert Taylor.

Four local pitchers threw a scoreless inning each for the East -- Southern rising senior Connor McCowan, Chesapeake-AA rising senior Drew Spinnenweber, Southern rising senior Steven Hogan and South River rising senior Craig Sheridan.

In the second game, Winters Mill rising senior pitcher-outfielder Isaiah Pasteur had a three-run triple and a run scored for the West. He also pitched a scoreless inning despite allowing two hits and walking two batters.

The Junior Classic is a free showcase event for rising juniors and seniors in Maryland that will continue with the Maryland Cup (Aug. 8-9) at Prince George's Stadium.

The event is used to pick the Maryland Futures team that will compete in the 2013 Perfect Game/EvoShield wooden bat national championship in Arizona from Sept. 20-23.
