South River field hockey coach Katie Corcoran, who guided the Seahawks (17-1) to the Class 4A state championship in the fall, has stepped down after eight seasons to spend more time with her family. The Edgewater school announced that assistant coach Megan Atkinson will take over as coach. Corcoran also led the Sehawks to a state championship in 2005, her first season as coach.

"We are extremely grateful to the service that Katie Corcoran has provided South River High School’s field hockey program," South River athletic director David Klingel said in a news release. "Her integrity, sportsmanship, and performance over the past eight years has continued the programs long history of success.  We wish Katie the best in her family endeavors and she will always be welcome back as a resource to our program."
