Seven local wrestlers were named High School All-Americans by the National High School Coaches Association following the 25th annual High School Wrestling Championships in Virginia Beach last weekend.

Brendan Woody (South River), Quinn Devaney (McDonogh) and Brady Daniel (River Hill) were named freshman All-Americans. Sam Martino (McDonogh) was named a sophomore All-American and three River Hill seniors — Michael Beck, Logan Kirby and Cory Daniel — were named All-Americans.

The wrestlers earned the distinction by placing in the top eight in their divisions’ weight class.

Daniel had the group’s best showing, finishing second in the senior division at 220 pounds. Martino finished third in the 138-pound sophomore division.

Woody, a first-year wrestler who competed for the Seahawk’s junior varsity team this year, placed fifth in the freshman 285-pound division.

Devaney (freshman, 126 pounds), Beck (senior, 113) and Kirby (senior, 195) finished sixth in their divisions.
