The state boys and girls lacrosse championships are set for Tuesday and Wednesday nights at UMBC. All of the defending boys state champions return -- South River, Hereford and Fallston. Century is the only defending girls champion to make it into the final.
The finals feature a pair of rematches of last year's title games on the boys side. South River defeated Westminster, 10-8, for the 4A-3A title last season, and Hereford topped Glenelg, 13-8, in Class 3A-2A.
Hereford boys are going for their sixth straight championship and a boys state record nine titles overall. Century has the most titles of any girls team in the field with six -- still far behind Mount Hebron's record 15.
Easton is looking to take the first girls title home to the Eastern Shore, and Sherwood is the first Montgomery County girls team to reach the championship game.
