After leading a dominant Severna Park cross country team last fall, Ryan Forsyth received some individual recognition on Wednesday.
The Falcons star has been named Gatorade Maryland Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year, capping a season in which Forsyth helped the No. 1 Falcons win the Class 4A state title.
Forsyth won the title race in 15:41.30 and was named The Baltimore Sun's All-Metro Runner of the Year for the 2013 cross country season.
"Without question, Ryan Forsyth was the best cross country athlete in Maryland this season," said South River head coach Josh Carroll. "Coaching against him was a huge challenge. In fact, we generally conceded his spot and focused on the rest of the competition because he was that far out in front."
The senior finished seventh at the 2013 Nike Cross Nationals Southeast Regional championships, running 15:12.60. That qualified him for the Nike Cross Nationals Final, in which Forsyth finished in 52nd place in 15:48.
Forsyth set five course records over the course of the season. He has a 4.15 GPA and has not decided where he will attend college.
