River Hill up to No. 4 in state football poll

Four was a lucky number for River Hill this week. The Hawks have shut out their past four opponents by a total of 177-0 and they jumped up to No. 4 in this week’s media Maryland High School Football State Poll.

The Hawks' 37-0 win over Wilde Lake on Friday combined with Gonzaga’s 27-10 upset of last week’s No. 4 DeMatha gave them a one-spot bump. One of nine undefeated teams in the poll, River Hill is ranked behind No. 1 Good Counsel, No. 2 Gilman and No. 3 Wise (9-0).

DeMatha’s loss also helped Arundel (9-0) jump up one spot to No. 6, while Calvert Hall stuck at No. 8, Westminster (9-0) at No. 12 and Franklin at No. 14.

No. 15 Dunbar, No. 16 Old Mill and No. 20 St. Paul’s (8-0) each moved up one place thanks in part to Landon’s 12-7 upset of last week’s No. 15 Bullis, which dropped out of the Top 25.

Milford Mill and Edmondson received votes but not enough to crack the Top 25.
