Thursday, the Panthers rallied to score 10 points in the fourth quarter to beat Williamsport, 40-38, in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League non-conference game. The North Carroll defense rebounded from giving up 38 points to hold the Wildcats scoreless in the fourth quarter.
Running back Sean Floto, who had 192 yards on 22 carries, scored the winning touchdown on a 24-yard run with two minutes to go. It was his second touchdown of the night for the Panthers, who were 1-10 last season and 2-8 the year before.
"Our relentless defense and execution on our offense has been the key to our great start," Martello said in a news release. "The kids are excited when they come to practice every day and that shows up in the level of their play."
This is the first Coach of the Week honor for Martello, who along with the other winners this season is in the running for the Ravens’ High School Coach of the Year to be announced Dec. 8 at the Ravens-Vikings game.
Last week’s winner was St. Paul’s coach Paul Bernstorf.
The Ravens donate $2,000 to the athletic department of each weekly winner, who also receives a Coach of the Week hat and certificate.
