During the school year, Varsity Letters will periodically ask student-athletes from various sports to step in as guest bloggers. They'll share their personal thoughts about one aspect of their season or reflect on the season to date.

This week's guest is North Carroll's Kyle Fiedler, who's played multiple roles in the Panthers 6-0 start, which has ensured them their first winning season since 2007.

Fiedler, a senior tight end, linebacker, kicker and punter, kicked a 33-yard field goal and had a 56-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Jack Flowers in the Panthers' 38-29 win over Francis Scott Key Saturday on the artificial turf at Oakdale High in Frederick County.

Team captain for the football and lacrosse teams, Fiedler is North Carroll's all-time leading scorer in lacrosse and is one of the top scorers in Carroll County history.

Here's what he told reporter Katherine Dunn about this winning football season:

After having a very disappointing season a year ago, we went into the offseason with a sour taste in our mouths. We knew a lot of hard work and dedication was necessary in order to change the losing tradition around at North Carroll. Our coaches pushed us through rigorous workouts in order to become bigger, faster, and stronger. Through six games we are 6-0, a feat not attained since the 2007 season when all of us were still in rec council.

Without the natural given size on the field, we have used our speed and quickness on both sides of the ball. On defense, we started using a new defensive scheme in order to use our athleticism to our advantage. On offense, we have put in a nice blend of balance between run and pass in order to pick up big chunks of yardage at a time and keep the defense guessing. Our coaches have been a huge part to our success this year.

This year has felt a little different from previous ones; everyone has bought into what our coaches have been preaching. "Work hard every day" and "Know your assignments" are just a few of the sayings we have heard repeatedly this year. Every day we go out and practice hard, knowing how important it is to outwork our opponents. We go into every game thinking we can win and just go out and compete to the best of our ability.

Our fan section has been absolutely amazing this year. Our entire school has shown support towards the football program which only builds the team's confidence. Not only have they helped fill up home bleachers, we have had large crowds for away games too, including two games in which fan buses were organized and drove students to the game. We, as a team, are so thankful and humbled by the student body, alumni, teachers, and administration, and our families support.

Finally, the players: We are one giant family. We joke amongst ourselves, but at the end of the day we all have each other's back. We are very loose out on the field, not afraid to make mistakes as long as they are being made at 110 percent. We have faced adversity in many all of our games so far, but have kept our composure, played as a team, and overcome any obstacle in our path. We will continue with our routines throughout the rest of the season and work hard in order to make this season one we will remember for the rest of our lives.
