Mount St. Joseph will play in the revived Slam Dunk to the Beach boys basketball tournament in December, the Delaware Sports Commission announced Wednesday.
The tournament, to be held at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes, Del., from Dec. 27 to 29, had not been held since 2003.
“We are fortunate to have a field that features some of the top programs and players in high school basketball,” Matthew Robinson, chairman of the tournament and the commission, said in a statement. “With a field of this caliber, Cape Henlopen's gym is sure to be filled to capacity all three days of the tournament, which will not only provide an incredible atmosphere, but will also help bring patrons and visitors to the Delaware beaches during the winter season."

The Gaels finished last season 34-5 and champions of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference. They finished second in The Baltimore Sun's rankings.
One of the top high school basketball tournaments in the country from 1990 to 2003, the original Slam Dunk tournament collapsed when founder Bobby Jacobs canceled the 2004 tournament.
Afterward, vendors came forward to say Jacobs did not pay them for the 2003 tournament and in 2008, he was sentenced to two years in prison with one suspended after pleading no contest to charges that he took thousands of dollars from tournament funds, according to The (Wilmington, Del.) News Journal.
Before that, the tournament had hosted basketball stars such as LeBron James in 2001, Dwight Howard in 2003 and Carmelo Anthony in 2000.
The Delaware Sports Commission, a nonprofit dedicated to bring sporting events to Delaware, created the new Slam Dunk tournament last fall.
