Milford Mill's Medinah Spencer won the Class 3A 100-meter hurdles at the state track and field championships on Saturday at Morgan State.
Spencer finished with a time of 14:57 seconds, 0.11 seconds faster than Taylor Selber of Long Reach.
“I was seeded first to win,” Spencer said, “so I wanted to prove to everybody that I could make it.”
During the preliminaries, Spencer had to run her race a second time -- at the end of the meet -- after the hurdles fell down while she was running. She was flustered at the time, but persevered to win when they ran again.
“The girl [and I] were neck-and-neck,” Spencer said. “Both of our hurdles fell, and they didn’t know which hurdle impeded on the other, so we had to do a re-do.”
But on Saturday there were no such complications. Spencer ran a smooth race, claiming the championship in impressive fashion.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
