McDonogh All-Metro safety Josh Woods has been selected to play for Team Maryland in the Big 33 Football Classic, a June all-star game between Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Woods, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound safety who has committed to Maryland, also played wide receiver for the Eagles. He had an interception and a touchdown catch in the No. 1 Eagles' 37-6 win over Gilman that clinched the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference title and an 11-0 season.

McDonogh coach Dom Damico said Woods put together an exceptional highlight reel late in the season on both sides of the ball. For the season, he had 35 tackles and four interceptions at safety and made 35 catches for 800 yards and 10 touchdowns as a receiver.

"He's developed, especially in the last part of his senior season, into an explosive athlete with the rare ability to play the ball and catch the ball," Damico said in a news release. "His ball skills are really off the charts. With those skills, he can play either receiver or defensive back at the next level."

Pennsylvania spoiled Maryland's return the Big 33 game last summer after two decades away with a 58-27 pounding, but coach Brian Van Deusen (River Hill) has already landed some top talent for this year's game.

Defensive back Marcus Allen (Wise, Penn State), wide receiver Cameron Phillips (DeMatha, Virginia Tech) and Justin Falcinelli (Middletown, Clemson) have signed on.

The 57th Annual Big 33 Classic will be played June 14 at Hersheypark Stadium. It will be televised live on the NFL network.
