No. 1 McDonogh finished sixth out of 102 teams in the prestigious Beast of the East wrestling tournament in Newark, Del., over the weekend.
Eagles junior Jack Clark placed second at 145 pounds, while sophomore Myles Martin was the runner-up in the 160-pound weight class.
Clark lost a 4-1 decision to Camden (N.J.) Catholic's T.J. Miller in the final, and Martin fell to Central Dauphin (Pa.)'s Garrett Peppelman, 3-2, in the championship bout.
In the semifinals, Martin upset St. Mary's Ryken junior Josh Llopez by a 1-0 decision.
McDonogh senior Xavi Ramos (138) finished eighth after falling to Cedar Cliff (Pa.)'s Max Good, 5-1, in the seventh-place match.
No. 9 Mount St. Joseph was 36th in the tournament. The Gaels took seven wrestlers to the event, led by junior Dan Hawkins' eighth-place finish at 195 pounds.
With five wrestlers in the tournament, No. 5 John Carroll placed 41st. The Patriots were led by senior George Weber's sixth-place finish at 145 pounds.
No. 11 St. Paul's finished 59th with five wrestlers in the tournament. Sophomore Ryan Friedman (113), the Crusaders' top finisher, was seventh in his weight class.
Blair Academy (N.J.) won the tournament with 309 points.
