Former McDonogh midfielder Ashley Spivey has transfered from Maryland and will play for the University of Central Florida this season.

The Knights announced the addition to their women's soccer team on Thursday.

Spivey, a two-time Baltimore Sun All-Metro Player of the Year with the Eagles, was the Terps' second-leading goal (6) and point (15) scorer last season and was selected to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference third team. In 2012, she was a member of the ACC's All-Freshman team.

She was one of three local soccer stars to join the Maryland women's soccer program in 2012, a group that also included Alexis Prior-Brown (Mercy) and Riley Barger (Bryn Mawr). Both are still on the Terps' roster.

"It will be really cool when all three of us will be able to combine our skills and play with each other," Spivey told The Sun in 2011.

She scored 85 goals and 57 assists in four years at McDonogh.

"Ashley is a great soccer player with a great soccer mind," McDonogh coach Harry Canellakis told The Sun in 2011. "Often players are judged on the goals they score, but she worked hard on both sides of the ball and developed into a strong leader.  The players looked to her to motivate them and she also led by example."

Central Florida finished 16-3-4 last season, including 8-0-1 in the American Athletic Conference. The Knights lost in the first round of the NCAA women's soccer championship.

Maryland, which will play its first Big Ten season this fall, finished 10-10 (6-7 ACC) and lost in the ACC tournament quarterfinals last season.
