McDonogh, the defending Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference champion, is ranked No. 2 behind DeMatha in the preseason Maryland High School Football Media State Poll released Tuesday.
The Eagles, who finished 11-0 last season, received four votes for No. 1 while DeMatha, the defending Washington Catholic Athletic Conference champion, received six votes for No. 1.
DeMatha finished last season ranked No. 1 while the Eagles, who were 11-0, were ranked second.
Gilman, last year's A Conference runner up, is No. 3 followed by Franklin, the defending state Class 3A champion, at No. 4. The Indians received two votes for the top ranking.
The top three Anne Arundel County teams were also ranked. Arundel is No. 12, Old Mill, No. 18 and Meade, No. 23.
Calvert Hall, which finished 3-9 last season but is expected to contend in the A Conference, is No. 25.
Other local teams receiving votes: St. Frances, River Hill, St. Paul's, Archbishop Spalding, Douglass, Glenelg, Perry Hall and C. Milton Wright.
