At Old Mill, coach Jeff Martin likes that his players are being rewarded for an excellent season, but doesn't pretend to know what's going to happen when the umpire says, "Play ball!"
"As usual, there are not a lot of easy games in this region," Martin said. "It is going to be very difficult for anybody to get out of this region."
Martin is fortunate to have two strong pitchers in Josh Hader (9-0) and Guy Wharton (4-2).
Asked who will start, Martin said, "We may have to use both of them, because you have to win the first one to advance."
At Poly, coach Cory Goodwin said simply, his team will show up and play its best.
"Being the No. 1 seed is new for us," he said. "There are a lot of teams in our bracket that we've never seen before. We know the other teams' records, but that doesn't mean anything because you don't know the caliber of competition they've been playing."
The Engineers will rely on three senior pitchers, Jordan Garrison (3-1, 2.67 ERA), Joseph Weinstein-Avery (5-0, 1.46) and Joe Uhden (2-2, 4.98), and their leading hitter, Martin Costes (.473 with 32 RBI and 4 home runs).
