With somewhere between seven inches and a foot of snow expected to litter Central Maryland by the time a winter storm runs its course Thursday evening, officials have preemptively postponed some regional wrestling matches and the state dual meet championship.
The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association announced on Wednesday that the state dual meet semifinals and finals would be held Tuesday at North Point, rather than Saturday, in order to accomodate the regional meets that were postponed due to the fear of snow.
Winners of the eight regional meets -- all originally scheduled for Wednesday -- advance to the state dual meet championship.
The 4A/3A East regional, featuring bouts between No. 6 River Hill and No. 7 Glenelg as well as No. 4 Bel Air and No. 10 Old Mill, has been moved to Saturday at 1 p.m.
The 2A/1A East regional, which featured North Caroline, Harford Tech, Patterson Mill and Wicomico at North Carolina has been moved to Saturday at 1 p.m. So has the 2A/1A West regional, which includes Mountain Ridge, Southern Garrett, South Carroll and Middletown at Mountain Ridge.
The 4A/3A South regional, which includes Huntingtown, La Plata, Stephen Decatur and Leonardtown, has also been moved to Saturday.
Start times for other regional meets were moved up on Wednesday in a race against the worst of the storm.
