For the third straight day, Maryland lost the first game and then bounced back with a win in its second contest in the Heartland Classic baseball tournament in Norman, Okla.
After losing, 10-4, to Ohio in the first game Thursday, Maryland had 15 hits in a six-inning 10-0 victory over Colorado to finish 3-3 in pool play.
Justin Morris (DeMatha) was 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored against Colorado. Zach Howeth (St. Michaels) was also 3-for-4 in the game, while Brady Acker (Atholton) was 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Zach Correa (St. Michaels) earned the victory after pitching three scoreless innings in relief of starter Taylor Bloom (Riverdale Baptist).
In the loss to Ohio, Maryland pitcher Chase Brewis (Riverdale Baptist) gave up seven runs (two earned), four hits and three walks in two innings.
Andrew Yacyk (North Hagerstown) had a double for Maryland in that game, while Seth Schubert (Catoctin) was 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored.
Maryland, which finished as the No. 5 seed, will play No. 4 seed Georgia in the elimination round at 4:30 p.m. EDT today. Maryland beat Georgia, 3-0, in pool play Tuesday.
If Maryland wins against Georgia, the team will face No. 1 seed Texas at 8 p.m. EDT for a spot in Saturday's championship game. Maryland lost to Texas, 11-1, in pool play Wednesday.
