With so many public school jurisdictions canceling afternoon activities because of the impending snowfall, Basketball Academy officials have been forced to shuffle the schedule for today's games after all.
School officials in Kent and Prince George's, as well as Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties closed schools early and postponed all games scheduled for this afternoon and tonight, so boys teams from Kent County, Largo, Potomac and Riverdale Baptist will not be able to participate in today's Academy games at Morgan State.
Bob Wade, coordinator of athletics for Baltimore City public schools, which sponsor the three-day Academy, said he set up overnight stays for those four teams at a downtown hotel, but superintendents of the two school districts and Riverdale Baptist officials wanted their teams to stay home. Kent County, whose players were already at Morgan State for the educational components of The Basketball Academy, had to return home.
Mike Sye, coordinator of athletics for Baltimore County public schools, said the Woodlawn boys and the Milford Mill girls will be able to play. The one Harford County team, Patterson Mill's girls, will also be able to stay, along with five teams from Baltimore City.
As a result, Wade has shuffled the schedule from six games to four so none of the remaining teams loses a game:
No. 15 Patterson Mill girls vs. No. 9 Milford Mill, 4 p.m.
Woodlawn boys vs. Patterson, 5:30 p.m.
No. 13 Lake Clifton boys vs. No. 10 Edmondson, 7 p.m.
No. 2 Dunbar boys vs. No. 6 City, 8:30 p.m.
Wade said that tomorrow's slate of nine games, starting at 10 a.m., should go on as scheduled.
Nearly everything else around the area was postponed because many private and parochial schools follow their local jurisdictions.
The girls basketball game between No. 7 Roland Park and No. 8 Seton Keough is postponed with no make-up date yet. Annapolis Area Christian School’s wrestling team will not make their trip to Delco tomorrow.
Following are the make-up dates for some of today’s postponed events:
