For the second straight year, McDonogh senior midfielder George Campbell has been named the Gatorade Maryland Boys Soccer Player of the Year.

The Maryland-bound Campbell, who was The Sun's All-Metro Player of the Year, finished with 23 goals and 15 assists to lead the No. 1 Eagles (20-0-1) to the program's seventh Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship.

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Campbell as Maryland’s best high school boys soccer player.

A 'B' student, Campbell is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award, which will be announced in May.
