Gilman linebacker Melvin Keihn received his honorary jersey for the Under Armour All-America High School Football Game when the selection tour stopped by the school Tuesday.
Keihn is one of 90 players nationwide -- and the only one from Baltimore -- chosen for the seventh annual All-America game to be played Jan 2 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. The game will be televised live on ESPN.
Watching former Greyhounds teammates Darius Jennings, Cyrus Jones and Henry Poggi play in the national senior all-star game fueled Keihn’s desire to participate as well.
"I decided to accept the invitation to the Under Armour All-America Game because during my freshman year I saw Darius Jennings play in the game. I was pretty excited to see one of the Gilman kids get invited to the game, and so I made it a goal of mine to do the same my senior year," Keihn said in a news release.
"The aspect of the Under Armour All-America Game I'm most looking forward to is basically just going out there and getting a chance to compete with good players. Obviously this game is going to have a lot of good competition, and I'm just looking forward to going out there and playing with them and building great relationships with those guys."
A 6-foot-3, 225-pound All-Metro defensive end last season, Keihn is rated a 4-star linebacker by rivals.com and the overall No. 7 recruit in Maryland’s Class of 2014. He has narrowed his college list to five and plans to visit Virginia Tech this weekend. He is also considering Virginia, Penn State, Maryland and Miami.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
