Gilman's Cyrus Jones Jr. was named a second-team All-American as a return man this week by SportsIllustrated.com.
A senior who played five positions for the No. 1 Greyhounds this fall, Jones was The Baltimore Sun's Offensive Player of the Year and the Gatorade Maryland Player of the Year. He is still considering offers from his top five college programs: Alabama, Auburn, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Ohio State.
Rated the No. 33 recruit in the nation by ESPNU, the 5-foot-10, 195-pound Jones accumulated 2,365 total yards and scored 24 touchdowns this fall as the Greyhounds won the MIAA A Conference championship. He rushed 109 times for 948 yards and 13 touchdowns, caught 39 passes for 635 yards and six touchdowns, gained 354 yards on kickoff returns and had 428 yards on punt returns. At cornerback, he had five interceptions and returned one for a touchdown.
Two other players from Maryland were named to the first team: Good Counsel's Stefon Diggs as an all-purpose selection and Potomac's Ronald Darby as a cornerback.
