Gilman up to No. 2 in state football media poll

Gilman moves up to No. 2 in this week’s Maryland High School Football Media State Poll, the first new poll since the season began.

The Greyhounds, up from No. 3 in preseason, got the boost after knocking off previously top-ranked No. 1 Good Counsel in their season opener, 20-14. DeMatha, which had been ranked second, took over the top spot.

Nine other Baltimore-area teams remained in the poll, while St. Paul's made its debut at No. 22 and Mount St. Joseph dropped out after being No. 24 in preseason.

Old Mill jumped to No. 8 over River Hill, which stayed No. 9. Meade and Arundel moved up three spots each to No. 10 and No. 13, respectively.

McDonogh moved from No. 15 to No. 11. Calvert Hall dropped from No. 4 to No. 12. No. 19 Dunbar, No. 24 Franklin and No. 25 Westminster all dropped after season-opening losses.

Atholton, Loyola and Archbishop Spalding also received votes.
