Archbishop Curley debuts in state media football poll

After getting off to a 4-0 start this season, Archbishop Curley debuted at No. 24 in this week's Maryland High School Football Media state poll.

The Friars defeated Caravel (Del.), 49-35, on Friday and also beat Loyola, 39-7, earlier this month.

Gilman remained the highest-ranked team in the Baltimore area as the Greyhounds stayed at No. 2 after blitzing Anacostia (D.C.), 56-6. DeMatha held onto the top-ranked spot with a 26-21 win over St. John’s.

Meade took the biggest tumble of any local team, falling from No. 9 to No. 16 after losing to Anne Arundel County rival Old Mill, 30-20. Old Mill stayed at No. 6.

Also in the Top 10, McDonogh remained at No. 8 and River Hill moved up a spot to No. 10. Calvert Hall also fell one spot to No. 18, Arundel remained No. 19, Dunbar rose from No. 22 to 21 and St. Paul’s jumped two spots to No. 22.

Franklin and Howard received votes.
