Charity dinner planned at Loyola Blakefield to honor Jerry Savage

St. Anthony's (NJ) basketball coach Bob Hurley, Sr. will be the featured speaker

Loyola Blakefield will host a charity dinner entitled "An Evening With Legendary St. Anthony's (N.J.) Firars Coach Bob Hurley Sr.," which is set for April 29 at Knott Hall.

Proceeds will benefit the Jerry Savage Merit Scholarship Fund.

Savage, who was the Dons basketball coach from 1968 to 2003 and finished with more than 600 wins, died in May 2015.

The dinner is set for 6:30 to 9 p.m. with Hurley the featured speaker.  Hurley has guided the Friars to four national championships and is a 2010 Basketball Hall of Fame inductee. He also will be signing copies of his book entitled "Chasing Perfect: The Will to Win in Basketball and Life."

Chris Clunie, a 2002 Loyola Blakefield grad who is the NBA director of international basketball operations, will have a social reflection on Savage. Paul McMullen, managing editor of The Catholic Review, will serve of master of ceremonies.
