Championship focus shifts to baseball, softball, tennis and track

The high school lacrosse season concluded Wednesday night with the end of one championship streak and the continuation of another.

Now the attention shifts to the track and field semifinals and finals -- which begin with Class 2A and 1A Thursday afternoon at Morgan State -- and continue through Saturday with finals in all classifications for track and field and championships for baseball, softball and tennis.

Here's a quick look at what's in store for local teams through the weekend:

Thursday

Track and field

Semifinals and some finals for Class 2A and 1A schools competing in the state track and field begin after 3 p.m. at Morgan State.

Friday

Baseball

The No. 4 Chesapeake-AA baseball team plays Sherwood in the Class 4A final at Ripken Stadium ain Aberdeen at 7:30 p.m.

Softball

No. 1 Eastern Tech -- undefeated this season -- will play Easton in the Class 2A final at the University of Maryland at 8 p.m.

Tennis

The single-elimination tournament begins at 10 a.m. with two preliminary rounds the University of Maryland's Cole Field House Tennis Courts.

Track and field

The state track and field meet continues at 3 p.m. with semifinals and some finals for Class 4A and 3A schools at Morgan State.

Saturday

Baseball

- Sparrows Point plays Smithsburg in the Class 1A championship at Ripken Stadium at 1 p.m.

- No. 15 Southern-AA plays Parkside in the Class 2A championship at Ripken Stadium at 4 p.m.

- No. 5 North Harford plays No. 2 Reservoir in the Class 3A championship at Ripken Stadium at 7 p.m.

Softball

- No. 4 Chesapeake-AA plays Sherwood in the Class 4A championship at the University of Maryland at 2:30 p.m.

- Sparrows Point plays Manchester Valley in the Class 1A championship at the University of Maryland at 5 p.m.

Tennis

The semifinals for all classes begin at the University of Maryland's Cole Field House Tennis Courts at 10 a.m. and finals are expected to begin at 1 p.m.

Track and field

The championship meet at Morgan State concludes with finals in all classes, starting at 10 a.m.
